Indian television’s beloved actor Amar Upadhyay is set to revive one of the most iconic roles in soap opera history as he reprises Mihir Virani in the much-anticipated reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
The new season, produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, is slated to premiere on July 29, 2025, at 10:30 PM on Star Plus.
It promises a blend of timeless drama and fresh twists.
Upadhyay, who shot to fame with the original series from 2000 to 2008, initially dismissed the offer as a prank from producer Ekta Kapoor.
In a recent promo video, he shared his disbelief, saying, “I thought it was a joke, but here we are, bringing back the magic after over two decades.”
The actor expressed how the reunion felt seamless, like no time had passed.
A highlight of the reboot is Upadhyay’s on-screen reunion with co-star Smriti Irani, who returns as Tulsi Virani.
Describing Irani as a “very good friend,” Upadhyay highlighted their enduring bond in interviews, noting how they reconnected effortlessly for the new episodes.
“Working with her again is pure joy; it is like old times with new stories,” he said.
The first day on set was celebrated, with Upadhyay surprising the cast and crew by bringing sweets.
“First day, first scene hua mazaa aagaya,” he recounted, turning the occasion into an emotional and fun kickoff for the production.
The reboot introduces new elements, including fresh faces portraying Mihir and Tulsi’s children, while familiar stars like Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan also return.
A promo unveiling these characters features Upadhyay, Tejwani, and Pradhan.
It teases a narrative that honors the legacy while exploring modern family dynamics.
Reflecting on the original show’s impact, Upadhyay recalled the fan frenzy over Mihir’s on-screen death, which sparked protests and forced his character’s resurrection.
“The love for Mihir has never faded; I am grateful for this second chance to relive it,” he shared.
Fans are flooding platforms with nostalgic posts, and Upadhyay’s social media accounts feature teasers urging viewers to “relive the emotion, the drama, and the legacy.”
Upadhyay expanded his repertoire earlier this year with the Gujarati film Mom Tane Nai Samjay, co-starring Rashami Desai.
The emotional family drama garnered positive reviews, showcasing his versatility beyond television.
As the premiere approaches, Upadhyay’s return signals a revival of epic Indian TV sagas, with fans eagerly awaiting the Virani family’s next chapter.
