The cricket fever is set to soar as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rolls out the much-awaited schedule for the opening fortnight of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. 

From March 22 to April 7, 2024, the initial phase promises non-stop cricketing action with 21 thrilling matches across ten vibrant cities. 

Fans are on the edge of their seats as teams prepare to give their best in at least three to a maximum of five matches each.

Opening Clash and Weekend Bonanza

The 17th season of the IPL will commence with a bang, featuring the defending champions and five-time victors, the Chennai Super Kings, squaring off against the formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai on a captivating Friday night. 

The first weekend escalates the excitement with two double-headers. 

It kicks off with the Punjab Kings hosting the Delhi Capitals on a sunny Saturday afternoon, followed by a twilight clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

The action-packed Sunday (March 24) will see the Rajasthan Royals taking on the Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur, and later, the Gujarat Titans, the 2022 champions, will face the Mumbai Indians, another team with five titles to its name.

Strategic Home Matches and Security Coordination

In a strategic move, the Delhi Capitals have chosen Visakhapatnam for their first two home matches, welcoming the Chennai Super Kings on March 31 and then clashing with the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3. 

The BCCI remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the event, especially with the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. 

The board plans to work closely with government and security agencies, adhering to all protocols and advisories, and will adjust the schedule once the election dates are announced.
