PM Modi’s Historic Knesset Speech: India-Israel Ties

PM Modi's Historic Knesset Speech India-Israel Ties

PM Modi's powerful first-ever address to Israel's Knesset, from heartfelt support against terror to ancient Jewish-Indian bonds.

Hey there, friends!

On 25 February 2026, something truly special happened in Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood in Israel‘s Parliament, the Knesset, and became the first Indian Prime Minister ever to address the august house.

The moment felt historic, warm, and full of genuine friendship.

The hall gave him a standing ovation, and you could feel the connection between two ancient civilisations that have quietly supported each other for centuries.

At THOUSIF Inc. – INDIA, we love sharing stories that bring people together.

So today, let us sit down like old friends, go through the highlights of this landmark speech and understand why this visit matters so much for both our countries.

Narendra Modi’s Historic Speech In Israel

A Message Of Solidarity When It Matters Most

Right at the start, PM Modi expressed India’s heartfelt condolences for the lives lost in the barbaric Hamas attack of 7 October 2023.

He said:

“We feel your pain. We share your grief. India stands with Israel firmly, with full conviction, in this moment and beyond.”

He was crystal clear: No cause can justify the murder of civilians.

Nothing can justify terrorism.

Coming from a nation that has itself suffered terrible attacks like 26/11 Mumbai, these words carried real weight.

He reminded everyone that terrorism anywhere threatens peace everywhere, a simple truth we all need to remember.

He also praised the Abraham Accords and expressed strong support for the Gaza Peace Initiative, backed by the UN Security Council, hoping it will bring lasting peace to everyone in the region, including addressing the Palestinian issue through wisdom, courage, and humanity.

Ancient Ties That Go Back 2,000 Years

What touched me most was how beautifully PM Modi spoke about the deep roots between India and the Jewish people.

He reminded the Knesset that Jewish communities, the Bene Israel of Maharashtra, the Cochini Jews of Kerala, the Baghdadi Jews of Kolkata and Mumbai, and the Bnei Menashe of the Northeast, have lived in India for centuries without fear of persecution or discrimination.

They preserved their faith, fully participated in Indian society, and became part of our national fabric.

In my home state of Gujarat, there is even a wonderful school started by a Bene Israeli family, aptly called the “Best School”!

He also remembered legends such as actor David Abraham (Uncle David), Dr Reuben David, who founded Ahmedabad’s Kankaria Zoo, and Lt General J.F.R. Jacob, the hero of the 1971 war.

Moreover, yes, movement went both ways.

Thousands of Indian Jews made Israel their home in the mid-20th century.

Today, their Indian-origin community proudly calls Israel their fatherland and India their motherland.

Trivia Time!

Did you know that during World War I, more than 4,000 Indian soldiers laid down their lives in this region? The famous cavalry charge at Haifa in September 1918 is still remembered. Major Thakur Dalpat Singh became the “Hero of Haifa”. When PM Modi visited the Haifa memorial earlier, he was deeply moved – a beautiful symbol of shared sacrifice.

Another heart-warming fact: During the Holocaust, the Maharaja of Nawanagar (Jam Saheb) opened his doors to Polish children, including many Jewish kids who had nowhere else to go. Israel recently honoured him with a statue – a lovely reminder that humanity shines even in the darkest times.

Modern Partnership: From Farms To Future Tech

PM Modi did not just look back, he looked forward with excitement.

India is today the fastest-growing major economy and will soon be among the world’s top three. Israel is the “Start-up Nation” – a global leader in innovation. Together, they make a perfect team.

Here is a quick, simple table of the key areas where we are working hand-in-hand:

AreaWhat’s Happening?
Trade & InvestmentBilateral Investment Treaty signed last year; Free Trade Agreement negotiations moving fast
Defence & SecurityNew MOU signed in November 2025; trusted partners in uncertain times
Agriculture43 Centres of Excellence already training 5 lakh+ Indian farmers; target to reach 100 centres soon
Innovation & TechiCreate incubator (started 2018) has supported nearly 900 start-ups; big focus on AI, quantum, semiconductors
People-to-PeopleYoga centres everywhere in Israel; growing interest in Ayurveda; Indian caregivers doing amazing work

He also mentioned larger frameworks such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the I2U2 grouping (India, Israel, UAE, USA), which are creating new opportunities for jobs and growth.

And the human touch? PM Modi invited young Israelis to visit India to experience our vibrant society and holistic wellness.

He also announced that the Indian Parliament has now established a dedicated Parliamentary Friendship Group for Israel, so more MPs can visit and learn from one another.

Why This Matters For All Of Us

In simple words, this speech was not just diplomacy; it was about two democracies that respect each other’s ancient wisdom and modern dreams.

Both nations believe the world is one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in India, Tikkun Olam in Judaism).

Both celebrate festivals of light around the same time, Diwali and Hanukkah.

Both value action over empty words.

As PM Modi ended with “Am Yisrael Chai” (The People of Israel Live) and “Jai Hind”, the message was loud and clear: Our friendship is a source of strength in an uncertain world.

At THOUSIF Inc. – INDIA, stories like this remind us how much we can achieve when nations connect with respect and trust.

Whether you are a student, a businessperson, a farmer, or simply someone who loves seeing countries come together, this visit is good news for all of us.

What did you find most inspiring in the speech?

The historical bonds, the strong stand against terror, or the exciting future plans?
