Renowned Filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar Passes Away at 67

Acclaimed filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar, known for directing films such as Parineeta and Helicopter Eela, passed away at a Mumbai hospital at age 67. 

The director was reportedly on dialysis, and his potassium levels dropped drastically before his demise.

The news of Sarkar’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes from the Indian film industry. 

Actor Ajay Devgn expressed his condolences on Twitter, saying, “The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us, is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP, Dada.” 

Fellow actor Manoj Bajpayee shared similar sentiments, tweeting, “Ohh! That is so shocking! Rest in peace, Dada!”

Other celebrities also shared their memories and condolences. 

Neil Nitin Mukesh recalled working with Pradeep Sarkar on Lafangey Parindey, stating, “DADA!!! Why??? I will miss you, Dada. Will always remember you as that child-hearted, full-of-life man who taught me so much. Your creation Lafangey Parindey will always remain close to my heart. My prayers with the family.” 

Patralekhaa, who worked with Pradeep Sarkar on a film, shared set photos and wrote, “Goodbye Dada…You will be missed; thank you for all the precious memories. I have learned so much from you. Love and respect always.”

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri announced the funeral details on Twitter, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Pradeep has departed for his heavenly abode. Please join us at 4 pm for his funeral at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium to say Goodbye to him.” 

He added, “Lost another gem of a person. Pradeep Da was a creative person, reflected in his art and behavior. You will live in our hearts with your art. Om Shanti.”

Pradeep Sarkar made his directorial debut with Parineeta in 2005, which earned him several awards, including the Zee Cine Award for Most Promising Director, Guild Award for Best Debut Director, IIFA Award for Best Screenplay, and Filmfare Award for Best Art Direction. 

He directed films such as Laaga Chunari Mein DaagLafangey ParindeyMardaani, and Helicopter Eela

He also directed web series like Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken MasalaArranged Marriage and Forbidden Love, and Duranga.

The film industry mourns the loss of a brilliant filmmaker and a cherished friend. 

Pradeep Sarkar’s passion for cinema and his exceptional body of work will forever be remembered.
